CORINNA - Lewis E. Matteson, 86, died June 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born June 11, 1928, at the family farm in Exeter, the oldest of five children of Charles and Etta (Henderson) Matteson, and worked there while growing up. He never complained about the work or any other of the many jobs he had, which included working on other farms, in area woolen mills, or in the woods. In fact, he loved to work.
On August 28, 1948, he married Betty Jean Tedford. Their marriage was blessed a little more than a year later with the birth of their only child, Wanda. His love for work and "doing business" included becoming a livestock dealer, antique car collector, and gun shop proprietor. He attended the Full Gospel Church and the Cornerstone Baptist Church, both in Exeter.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 65 years; a daughter, Wanda and husband, Tony Dearborn; 2 sisters and their husbands, Marion and Wendell Bennett and Jeanette and Paul Black; a sister-in-law and husband, Gloria and the Rev. Jerry Scott; 2 grandsons and their wives, Ryan and Susan Dearborn and Chad and Paula Dearborn. The light of his life were his 5 great-grandchildren, Robert, Emma, Allyson, Molly and Emily; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Kenneth and Eugene.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, June 25th at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Thursday at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, with the Revs. Stan Griffin and Chris Faloon officiating. Burial will be in the Morse's Corner Cemetery, Corinna.
