MEDWAY - Leta L. McLaughlin, 72, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at an Orono health care facility. She was born December 9, 1943 in Millinocket, the daughter of Roger and Bertha (Pelkey) Birmingham.
Leta grew up in Medway and East Millinocket. She enjoyed spending time at home, and feeding "her" animals - up to 40 deer and 11 raccoons frequented her yard looking for winter sustenance, and she loved them all. Leta was a proud supporter of the ASPCA and the humane society, among other charitable organizations. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother by her children.
Leta is survived by her significant other of many years, Galen McLaughlin of Medway; two children, Kim McLaughlin of Simsbury, Connecticut, and Christopher McLaughlin and his wife Laura Anderson of Bristol, CT; two sisters, Diana Cote and her husband Sonny of Millinocket, and Brenda Van Dine of Orono; a brother, Leland Libby of Vermont; and a special nephew, Timothy Birmingham and his wife Amanda. She will also be missed by two special friends, Alice Weed and Valice Austin. In addition to her parents, Leta was predeceased her husband, Thaxter Avan McLaughlin by two sisters, Patty Libby, Sharon Birmingham, and two brothers, William "Toast" Birmingham, and Roger "Butch" Birmingham, Jr.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 9:30 - 11 A.M. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., the same day, with the Rev. Regginal Adams officiating. Spring interment will be at the Grindstone Cemetery, Medway.
