Lester's Story

CARIBOU AND ST. FRANCIS - Lester Jandreau, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed into God's arms on February 17, 2016, to be in a world he once knew without Alzheimer's. Lester was born on September 12, 1926, the son of Mack and Lena Jandreau.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa, whom he married on July 1, 1947. He is also survived by his four children, Mark (Paula) Jandreau of Alberta, Canada, Terry Ann (Harold) Ouellette of Winthrop, ME, Brenda Ginn of Hamburg, NJ and Molly Jandreau of Augusta, Maine; eight grandchildren, Tommy, Tricia, Erika, Renae, Wade, Alissa, Kyle and Ashley; nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, Florence (Bob) Ouellette of Caribou, ME and Rita (Dudley) Jandreau of Bristol, CT; and a sister-in-law, Lucia (Bud) Jandreau of Florida. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Lester was a WWII Veteran stationed in the Philippines. He was also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, St. Francis American Legion, and Fort Kent VFW. He was past president of the St. Francis Credit Union, past president of the St. Francis Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the St. Francis-Allagash Fish & Game Club. Lester was active in his community and in his parish. He and Melissa wintered in Florida for 16 years, until he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. In 2008 they sold the family home which he had painstakingly built over the years and moved to Sunbury Village in Bangor. There he made many friends, as he did wherever he went. Due to health issues, he and Melissa moved to the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou, Maine in 2013.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 22, 2016, at 10 am at the St. Charles Catholic Church with full Military and Fourth Degree Honors in St. Francis. Friends may call at Daigle Funeral Home Monday from 8 am until time of departure for St. Francis. Spring burial will be held in the parish cemetery on May 13, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
