Leonette's Story

EAGLE LAKE AND FORT KENT - Leonette (Dube) Michaud, 94, died peacefully May 9, 2014 at a Fort Kent Health Care Facility. She was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Eagle Lake, the child of Maxime and Delina (Laferriere) Dube.

She graduated from Madawaska Training School in Fort Kent in 1940 and married Lucien Michaud in 1943. She worked 17 seasons at the head of the lake for the Eagle Lake Camps run by her husband and his mother. After the camps were sold, she returned to teaching and taught a total of 24 years, mostly third grade, at Eagle Lake. While teaching she continued her education and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1967. Although she had no children of her own, she frequently assisted in the care of many nieces and nephews. She also devoted many hours caring for her ill siblings, especially those who were in the Eagle Lake Nursing Home at different periods of time. She will be remembered for her many kindnesses, her patience, and her dedication. Though her schedule seemed full, she found time to plant and nurture the flowers in and around St. Mary's Church.

Leonette was predeceased by her husband in 2000, and by her 13 siblings. She leaves many beloved nieces and nephews, and friends who lived with her at Crosswinds where she was for 7 years. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Crosswinds Residential Care, who cared for Leonette with selfless devotion.

Her funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday May 13 at St. Mary's Church, Eagle Lake. Committal services will follow immediately after in the parish cemetery. There will be no viewing, as requested by Leonette. Service are being conducted by Daigle Funeral Home.
