BREWER - Leon Austin Wilson, 87, died peacefully after a brief hospitalization on December 7, 2014. He was born December 27, 1926, in Jonesport the son of Newman and Georgia (Rogers) Wilson.
Leon served his country in the U. S. Navy in World War II. He was the principal at the Pendleton Street School, Brewer, from it's opening until his retirement years later. Leon was a beloved principal and teacher and his students and teachers adored him. He attended Graceland College in Iowa and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono. Leon enjoyed gardening and wood working and being with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joanne (Barbour) Wilson of Brewer; children, Trudy Lang and husband Mel of Bangor, Paul Wilson and wife Vicki of Orrington and Kelly Bartlett of Florida; grandchildren, Kristie Shaw-Withee and husband Josh, Caitlin Maddan; great-grandchildren, Alana Brown and Terrance Joint; and many friends.
Services will be private for the family. A service of Brookings-Smith, Brewer Chapel.
