BANGOR AND BREWER - Lawrence "Larry" Michael Napoleone, 60, passed away at his home from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) on June 5, 2015, with his loving wife, best friend and caregiver Gail, by his side. He was born on September 25, 1954, in Portland, the son of the late Lawrence Napoleone of Portland and Nancy C. (Lane) Merrill of Windham.
Larry grew up in Portland on Munjoy Hill. He served his country in the Air National Guard in South Portland from 1973-1979 and was honorably discharged. In 1989 he graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelors Degree. Larry had a Masters License since 1982 with his early career as an electrician. From 1990-1994 he had moved to Winthrop and worked for Central Maine Power. Larry then found the career that he enjoyed, and went into the investment business and spent the last 18 years as a Portfolio Manager and was a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) since 2004. Larry moved to Bangor in 1996 and worked for Fleet Bank Trust Department, and then went to Merrill Bank (Peoples United Bank) in 2002 and was Senior Portfolio Manager and Chief Investment Officer. One of his passions was riding his bike and he participated in the Trek Across Maine and the MS 150 for many years. Larry loved the ocean and sailing, especially with his two great friends, Dan Merrill of Stockton and Brian Bishop of Newburg. He was a great caring and loving man and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the co-workers, friends and staff from EMMC Hospice for visiting with Larry, bringing food, and helping care for him.
He is survived by his wife Gail (Michaud) Napoleone, of Brewer; the companion of his mother, Bob Thiers; children, Greg Mancini and wife Christy of Scarborough, Michael Napoleone of California, Lisa Napoleone of Portland; two grandsons, Tony and Leo Mancini of Scarborough; two step sons, Kristopher Foraker and wife Jackie who are expecting their first born in December, and Alex Dube, all of Hampden; a sister, Debbie Merrill and husband Ken Basye of Massachuettes; and many other dear and caring sister, brother, nieces and nephews in-laws.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Wed, June 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where relatives and friends may call from Noon until the start of the service at 1 PM. The family invites relatives and friends to share in conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the service.
