VERONA ISLAND - Lawrence A. Gilman Sr., 89, of Verona Island, died Nov. 23, 2015, at a Bangor hospital. Born on July 7, 1926, in Old Town, he was the son of Arthur and Adella (Beaulieu) Gilman.
On February 21, 1959, Lawrence married Ellen J. (Chavaree) Gilman who predeceased him on November 20, 2009. He worked for Wardwell's Construction Co. for 40 years. Lawrence enjoyed gardening, watching NASCAR, watching the New England Patriots and hunting. He and his wife are fondly remembered for the mornings they spent together eating breakfast at Just Barb's in Stockton Springs.
Lawrence is survived by his 9 children, Larry Gilman of Bucksport, Debbie McAllian of Hallowell, ME, Edward Chavaree of Colorado, Mike Chavaree of Sangerville, ME, Terrilee Staples and her husband, Tim of Brooklin, ME, Lorraine Gilman of Belfast, Amelia Nadeau and her husband, Bill of NH, Lawrence Gilman Jr. and his wife, Audrey of Hancock, and Mark Gilman of Verona, ME; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; one sister, Barbara Ivers of Bangor, ME; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, his parents, one son, Francis Lawrence Gilman; 4 sisters, Pearl Stanley, Vernice White, Anita Myers, and Diana Bridges; 1 brother, Francis Gilman.
Lawrence's family would like to thank their sister, Terri Staples, for the loving care and dedication that she provided to dad and our mother at their times of need.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, ME, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Burial services will be held privately.
