ROCKPORT - Lawrence "Duke" R. Dugas passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2015, at the Seaport Village Healthcare Center in Ellsworth, ME. He was born on January 29, 1934, a son of the late Lawrence E. Dugas and Ella B. (Bissell) Dugas.
Lawrence graduated from Thomaston High School. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. "Duke" enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a family man and a master at woodworking. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very fortunate to have amazing wooden toys made by their grandfather.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Helen Georgette (Lester) Dugas; 3 sons- Jerry Dugas and wife, Susan of Surry, ME, Ken Dugas and wife, Dawn of Surry, ME, Michael Dugas and husband, Kevin Blanchard of Winston-Salem, NC; 2 brothers- Joe Dugas and wife, Carol of Connecticut, Harry Dugas and wife, Carol of Connecticut; 2 sisters-Loretta Spaulding and husband, Jim of South Carolina, Rosella Midgley and husband, Ken Midgley of Georgia; 5 grandchildren- Ashley Dugas of Surry, ME, Tyler Dugas and wife, Alyssa of Surry, ME, Brieana Dugas of Milford, NH, Tiffany Benner of Ellsworth, ME; Jared Benner and wife, Courtney of Surry, ME; several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Ella Dugas; Alma Dugas; his son-Mark Dugas; his mother in law-Jeanne Lester.
A celebration of life ceremony will be scheduled in the future. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Lawrence Dugas: Maine Veterans' Home 44 Hogan Rd Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements were made by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Ellsworth, ME.
