Lawrence's Story

NEWPORT - Lawrence John DellaMattera, 70, passed away March 3, 2015. Larry was born August 28, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Pio and Marie (Marieni) DellaMattera. He graduated from Xaverian High School in New York City, where he was a National Merit Finalist, and attended Fordham University.

Larry, a passionate and gregarious man, cherished his family and lived life fully. His enthusiasm and holiday spirit brought joy to all at Christmas. Larry loved nature and was committed to animal rights. He was a poet and a chef extraordinaire, much to the delight of his family and friends. Larry enjoyed annual vacations with his wife, Joanne, (and their two cats) in Prince Edward Island, and was thrilled when other family members joined them.

In addition to Joanne, his beloved wife of 35 years, Larry is survived by his children, Ken, Nancy and Peter DellaMattera, and Ron Banks. Dayong Wen was also like a son to him. He adored his grandchildren, Em and Alli DellaMattera. Larry is also survived by his treasured sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Bill Fitzgerald, their children Billy and Mary (Murray) and their families, and many dear cousins.

In accordance with Larry's wishes, his family will be hosting a private celebration of his life. In recognition of the compassionate care that Larry and his family received at Sebasticook Valley Hospital during his final days, memorial donations may be made in his name to SVH Philanthropy, 447 North Main Street, Pittsfield, ME 04967.
