Lawrence's Story

BUCKSPORT AND LARGO, FLA. - Lawrence James Conroy, born August 16, 1946 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania died at home in Largo, Florida on December 18, 2015 after a protracted illness. He was the second of seven children of Edward and Pauline Conroy, consisting of five sons and two daughters.

Predeceased by his parents, Edward and Pauline, he is survived by his son Gregory Conroy of Largo, Florida. Also older brother, Thomas of Bucksport, sisters Carol Greene and husband Roger of Stockton Springs and Stacy Haskell and husband Danny of Blue Hill, and younger brothers David of Tallahassee, Florida; Mark of Pembroke, Massachusetts; and John of Portland, Maine and numerous nieces and nephews.

Having moved from Pennsylvania to Bucksport, Maine with his family in 1948, Larry attended schools in Bucksport, graduating in 1964. Upon graduation, he was employed as a laboratory technician in the St. Regis Paper Company mill in town for a total of 38 years. Lawrence moved to Largo, Florida after retirement.

Though a rather private person, Larry enjoyed the company of many friends and acquaintances with whom he spoke often. He enjoyed evenings out, lobsters, fried clams, barbequed chicken as well as golf and summers visits in Maine. He always kept in touch and on birthdays, one could always be sure that there was a card from Larry.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p/m/ on Wednesday December 23, 2015, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home 28 Elm St. Bucksport.
