OLD TOWN - Laurence B. "Larry" Spinney, 81, died July 15, 2015 at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 26, 1934 in Old Town, a son of Raymond and Delores (Bamford) Spinney.
He was a proud veteran having served with the 5th Air Force during the Korean War. He then enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Shangri-La. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was an avid and proud troop greeter. Laurence was an electrician working for Owens of Illinois and retiring from James River Paper Mill in 1997. During his "retirement" he worked as a security officer at Bangor International Airport with his final shift this past Sunday, before being admitted to the hospital. He was a life member of Elks lodge No 1287 and VFW Post 3381 of Old Town. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golf, and playing cards with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter Amber Martin and her husband Maurice of Milford, son Jonathon Spinney of Franklin, 5 grandchildren Jason Spinney, Jonathan Spinney, D. Gallant Richard and his wife Amanda, Bridgette Spinney, and Maya Spinney; three great grandchildren Raven, Belina, and Kesley; his companion Lucy Tripp and her family, special nephew Kenneth Spinney Jr and his wife Beth and their daughter Ali, and cousin David Bamford and his family; sister-in-law Patricia Spinney, the mother of his children Sallie Whitney; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his second wife Mary (Dupuis) Collins Spinney; brothers Kenneth Spinney Sr and Steven Spinney.
