Interlachen, FL, and Kenduskeag
- Larry Martin Cutliffe, Sr. died June 25, 2017 at his home in Interlachen, Florida, from a massive heart attack causing sudden instant death. He was born October 17, 1949, in Milo, the first child and only son of Harry Cutliffe, Jr. and Ada M. (Martin) Cutliffe. Larry grew up in Kenduskeag and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, class of 1968.
After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. His first and only tour of duty in Vietnam resulted in him being severely wounded in action at the age of 19. He was awarded the Purple Heart for the wounds he received. In 2008 Larry was awarded the State of Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medal presented by Governor Baldacci.
Although he lived with many medical problems he was extremely independent, never complaining and living life on his terms. He is survived by his five children, Larry (Marty) Cutliffe, Jr. and wife Ally of Iowa Colony, Texas; Lori L. Cutliffe Stubbs and husband Jason of Bucksport; Christopher M. Cutliffe of Old Town; Kelly and April Austin of Augusta; two sisters, Linda L. Cutliffe Hatch and husband William of Brewer, and Barbara A. Cutliffe Gray and husband Keith of Akhiok, Alaska and Newport; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two great-nephews, twin brothers, Mason and Marshall Hatch. Larry was always proud of the fact that he was part of the armed forces willing to serve our country, and especially proud that he was a U.S. Marine. That pride and strength stayed with him throughout his life.
Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, with military honors.
