- On February 18, 2017, Lance D. Hanscom of Blanco, New Mexico passed from his earthly journey to his joyous peace. He was 62 years old. The son of Donald and Marilyn Hanscom of West Hampden, Lance grew up with an appreciation for life in the country. He was particularly fond of animals, the outdoors and competitive sports, especially baseball. He was an avid Red Sox fan. In between farming and playing baseball, Lance developed a great love for hunting and trapping.
He graduated from Hampden Academy in 1973 and from Eastern Maine VoTech in 1975, where he learned building and carpentry skills. He practiced general building construction in the Bangor area for several years before moving to New Mexico to continue his contracting practice and expand his opportunities to hunt, trap and fish with his son and friends around Blanco.
Lance's passing leaves a great void for those who love him and were touched by his larger-than-life heart. He is survived by his wife Emily, son Dustin, daughter-in-law Whitney and his two grandchildren, Hunter and Everly. He is deeply loved and missed by his siblings and their spouses: Cheryl and David Millett of Chester, Me; Jina and Ed Morgan of Limerick, Me; Alan and Deborah Hanscom of Hanson, Ma; Valerie and Brian Jameson of Mount Dora, Fl; and Scott Hanscom of Hampden, Me, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be scheduled for a future time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lance's favorite charity, the Jimmy Fund.
