Kevin's Story

BLUE HILL - Kevin T. Ryan, 59, was freed of cancer on April 26, 2015 at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Blue Hill, April 11, 1956, son of Vernon T. and Jeanette Rita (Day) Ryan.

After graduation from high school, Kevin worked with his father in the mason business then worked in various boat yards as a boat builder. He also worked for Maine Frame for a time. In 1993 he started working for Ellsworth Building Supply where he worked over 20 years in the yard and wore many hats, including supervisory positions. Kevin also loved serving his community. For many of his early years, Kevin served as a volunteer for the Blue Hill Fire Department. More recently, he was on the Board of Directors for the Blue Hill Fair where he served for 25+ years. Kevin loved cars and back in the day could be found at Speedway 95 racing around the track. He built his own street legal car that was on the road for many years. Kevin and Christy enjoyed packing up the camper and heading out in the summer. Kevin loved watching NASCAR and could also be seen watching horse and oxen pulling at various fairs. He could also be found at the South Blue Hill wharf in the summer where he enjoyed lobster fishing.

He is survived by his partner and wife of 14 years, Christina M. (Jordan) Ryan of Blue Hill; parents, Vernon and Jeanette Ryan of Brooksville; brother, Daniel Ryan and wife Susan of North Blue Hill; sister, Vernette Bannister and husband Rick of Blue Hill; aunt and uncle, Gordon F. Carter and wife Edna; many nieces, nephews, and several great nieces and nephews; special friends, Ed Markey and Rachel Munson; and his special canine friend, Jake. He was predeceased by his grandparents.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, May 9, 2015 at the South Blue Hill Cemetery with Pastor Larry Hodgkins officiating. A celebration of life will follow at Central Hall, Falls Bridge Road, Blue Hill.

Kevin was very passionate and took pride in the horse and oxen pulling at the Blue Hill Fair. In lieu of flowers donations in Kevin's memory may be made to the Blue Hill Fair, c/o Rob Eaton, P O Box 390, Blue Hill 04614 for horse and oxen pulling facility improvements.
