BREWER AND BRADLEY - Kevin C. Bate, 46, died April 7, 2015, at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 1, 1968, in Bangor, a son of J. Christopher and Rosemarie (Shorette) Bate.
Kevin was an extraordinarily generous, talented and playful father, son, brother, partner and friend. He loved sharing of himself through his music, and any time spent with him was always blessed with laughter and his humor.
He had a long history working with youth in group homes throughout Maine, but music, family and friends were his passions. Kevin loved spending time in Downeast Maine at his grandparents' home in Lubec and the family camp at Gardner Lake, whether it was in a boat fishing or gathered around a campfire with his daughters and family to play the guitar and join in song.
Loving and encouraging his daughters, Kassidy and Julia, was the highlight of his life, and all the friends he made along the way, including his loving partner, Peggy, made it all the richer.
He is survived by two daughters, Kassidy and Julia Bate of Brewer; his parents, Chris and Rosemarie of Bradley; three brothers, J. Timothy Bate and his partner, William Sandstead of Brunswick, Mark Bate of Milford, and Jeremy Bate and his partner, Lisa Mark of Brunswick; the love of his life, Peggy Sockalexis, and her children, Gregory and Raven of Brewer; half-sister, Lori Lyons of Litchfield; two nephews, J. Colby and Parker Bate; the mother of his girls, Katherine Perkins of Brewer; a close friend, confidant, and supporter, Everett Dumas of Hampden; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends may gather to celebrate Kevin's life 3-6PM Sunday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Monday at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Immediately following the service, all are invited to the Parish Hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Kassidy Bate and Julia Bate Education Fund, c/o Timothy Bate, 81 Echo Rd., Brunswick, ME 04011.
