CINCINNATI, OHIO, AND MILLINOCKET, ME - Kenneth E. Reed Jr., 89, died March 30, 2014, in Hospice of Cincinnati of congestive heart failure.He was born 1924 in Millinocket, the son of Kenneth E. Reed Sr. and Daisy Reed. His widow is Lois Keiser Reed of Cincinnati.
Ken graduated in 1942 from Stearns High School; in 1945 from the U. of Maine-Orono; and worked for GE for 42 years, helping to develop jet engines. He was an Eagle Scout and was instrumental in aiding 78 young men to also achieve Eagle Scout status. Ken received Scouting's highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award. He also received many honors for his community service.
Survivors are his wife and two children, David of NC and Janet Palm of OH. Also by his sister Anne Erickson and his sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Reed of Millinocket. And by his three grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Lois Ricker Reed, who died of breast cancer, and by his siblings, Mary Oldham of NV and Carl Reed of Millinocket.
He was buried in Cincinnati. Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts, Dan Beard Council, 10078 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45213.
