Kenneth's Story

BENEDICTA AND BANGOR - Kenneth Douglas Cole, 77, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 8th, 2014. He was born June 15, 1937 in Machias, the son of the late Neil M. and Martha (Clark) Cole.

Kenneth graduated from Machias High School and the University of Maine, Machias. He worked in the Brewer school department as a teacher and principal for 9 years. He then worked as a Director for Head Start in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties for 30 years until retiring in 1999. He enjoyed living at Perry Pond, gardening, tending chickens and spending time with his family and loyal dog, Diesel.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jane (Carney) Cole; 3 children, Michael Cole, Lynn Maddocks and her husband, David, Sheila Goodine and her husband, Walter; grandchildren, Adam McKay, Joshua McKay, Meghan Maddocks, Kalie Stuever, Ryan Maddocks, Kaleb Goodine and Isabelle Goodine; his siblings, Bessie Getchell, Dorothy Whitney, Jean Bowles, Virginia Olsen and Alan Cole; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Philip, Donald and Neil Jr.

Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 15th at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ohio Street, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Penquis CAP Headstart Program, PO Box 1162, Bangor ME 04402. For an online memory book and to leave condolences please visit
