ST. ALBANS - Kenneth Elmer Chambers, 88, died March 5, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 4, 1925, in Corinna, a son of Elmer and Luella (Condon) Chambers.
He graduated from Hartland Academy, class of 1943 and attended Maine Maritime Academy for 2 years. He served for a time in the Merchant Marines before becoming a self employed dairy farmer. Ken was a Mason, a Shriner, and a Kiwanian. He was also an avid golfer, cribbage player and bowler. He also enjoyed harness racing and was a member of the Farm Bureau. He was a past board member with Farm Credit and was a past selectman for the Town of St.Albans.
Ken married the former Phyllis Knowles on Jan. 29, 1946. She predeceased him on Nov. 19, 2013. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Carroll and Richard; and two children Judith, and Jeffery. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth M. and wife, Brenda, of Pennsylvania and Frederick and wife, Terry, of Corinna; two daughters, Karen and husband, Hal Hutchins, and Deborah and husband, Tim Bagley, both of St. Albans; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Friends may call from noon until the time of services.
