Kathleen's Story

WINTERPORT - Kathleen (Kathy) M. Whitney, 65, passed away February 17, 2015, at a hospice facility in Homosassa, Florida. She was born April 14, 1949, in Boothbay Harbor, the daughter of Robert E. Pottle and Doris (Webber) Toothaker.

Kathleen moved from Boothbay to Winterport in her early teens and resided there until 1995. She was married to William H. Holmes from 1966 until his death in 1986. She married Jack R. Whitney in 1992 at their home in Lee, Maine. Kathy retired from G.E. in Bangor after 24 years of service, and she split her time between her camp in Maine and her home in Florida. Kathy loved the water, and spent all of her available time at her camp at number three pond in Lee. She enjoyed reading, word games, jigsaw puzzles, lobster, the coast of Maine, and most importantly her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Jack R. Whitney; three children, Billie Holmes Murphy, Phillip H. Holmes and Stacey Holmes Fales; a sister, Vicki Getchell; two stepchildren, Jimmy Whitney and Lisa Heuschkel; twelve grandchildren, Amanda Murphy; Sarah, Jake and Allison Fales; Whitney and James Heuschkel; Landon, Katahdin, Harris, Jack, Lila and Addie Whitney, as well as three nephews and a niece. Kathy will also be missed by her faithful dog, Maxi. Kathy was predeceased by her grandmother, Ellah Webber; her grandfather, Alvah Webber; her father, Robert Pottle; her mothe,r Doris Toothaker; her granddaughter, Savanna Murphy; her husband, William Holmes; and her sister, Patricia Doble.

A memorial service to honor Kathy's life will be held this summer in Maine. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Kathy's honor to the American Heart Association.
