Kathleen's Story

ELLSWORTH AND STUART, FL - Kathleen Keegan Hawkes, 72, of Ellsworth Maine and Stuart, Florida passed away December 10, 2015 following a brief illness. She has been traveling between Maine a Florida for the last several years.

Kathleen was born in Ocean Side, New York to Joseph and Daisy Keegan. Following her graduation from New York State University in Cortland, NY and later earning her master's degree from Hartford University, Kathleen was an elementary school teacher for her earlier career in New York and Connecticut and many years in Maine following her move there in 1976. She has remained active serving in many roles in Church of our Father in Hulls Cove, Maine. She has also served as both a past board member and officer of Downeast Horizons, an active participant in many roles with Acadia Camps Fartherest Out, an inter-denominational Christian organization and assisted in many community activities. Kathleen enjoyed reading, watersports, camping, maintaining an active outdoor life. She loved animals and took great care of her many pets, more recently Kiwi and Nugget.

Kathleen was predeceased by her first husband, Peder Fick many years ago.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, David Hawkes, of Ellsworth; son, Paul Fick, of Seattle, Washington; step-son, Nathan Hawkes, of North Yarmouth, Maine; step-daughters, Amy Sawyer (Andrew), of Raymond, Maine and Alison Lukisik (Josh), of Westfield, Massachusetts; sisters, Nancy Bixby, of Massapequa, New York and Carol Lee, of Clark Summit, Pennsylvania; and grandchildren, Dillon, Ian, Nolan, Layne, and Corbin.

Memorial contributions may be made in Kathleen's name to Church of Our Father, 91 State Highway 3, P.O. Box 186 Hulls Cove, ME 04644 and First United Methodist Church of Hobe Sound, 10100 S.E. Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, FL.

A Celebration Service of Kathleen's Life will take place in early February at Church of Our Father in Maine.
