BANGOR - Justina Delores (Donovan) Giles, 92, died Nov. 10, 2014 at a Bangor nursing center. She was born September 15, 1922 in Houlton, the only daughter of Edward C. and Myrtle (Haggerty) Donovan.
Justina attended St. Mary's Parochial school, Houlton High School and Ricker Junior College and graduated from Nasson College in 1945 majoring in foods and nutrition with a BS Degree. She was employed by the University of Maine as a Penobscot County Extension Agent and later as a food service manager on the Orono campus. Justina was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bangor, was a member of St. Mary's Parish Sodality Council and Penobscot Valley Nasson Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leo A. Giles in 1976, her parents and her four brothers, John, Wilfred, Albert and Timothy Donovan. Surviving are three children, Mary Hansen and her husband, William of Beaverton, OR, Margaret "Peggy" Gierhan of Windham and Thomas Giles and his wife, Kim of Bangor; six grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Hansen, Derek Gierhan, Ian Gierhan and his partner, Alicia Hammond, Michael and Connor Giles; one great grandson, Leo Gierhan.
Family and friends may visit, 5 -7 PM Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bangor with a time of fellowship and refreshments afterward. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, c/o Salvation Army, 65 South Park St., Bangor, ME 04401.
