June M.'s Story
June Marie Carroll Achorn, 83, passed away at her home on July 14, 2016, after a period of failing health. June was born on June 27, 1933, in Lewiston, daughter of John Murray Carroll, Jr. and Ruth Elizabeth Mills Carroll. She graduated from Brewer High School in 1951 and attended Fisher Business School in Boston.
She married the love of her life Arthur Lewis Achorn on October 25, 1952. She worked in a number of local businesses ~ Freese's Department Store, Blake Barrows and Brown, Common Sense Housing, and Maine Accessibility among others. She was a life long, passionate member of the First United Methodist Church of Brewer. She sang in the choir and was very active in many church ministries over the years. June donated countless volunteer time to multiple organizations throughout her lifetime. She loved spending time with her family and friends. June was very much a "people person" with friendships that spanned the years from early school days to the present day.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers in law Jay, John, Richard, and Thomas Achorn. Her loving husband of 63 years Arthur followed her in passing two weeks later. She is survived by her son Dale Achorn, daughters Leesa and husband M. Paul Brown, April, and Carrie Achorn, her sister Elaine and husband Lawrence Blethen, sister-in-law Sandra and husband Arthur Stockus, brothers-in-law Raymond and Daniel Achorn as well as 8 grand children and 2 great grand children and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church in Brewer on Thursday, September 1st at 11am.
Holden - Arthur Lewis Achorn, 85, loving father, grandfather and husband of the late June Carroll Achorn, passed away on July 30, 2016 at home with family, after a short battle with cancer. He was born June 30, 1931 in Portland, the son of Lewis Burchell and Nedra Pierce Achorn.
He attended Brewer High School and Wentworth Institute in Boston where he received a construction management degree. He served in the Air National Guard and the U.S. Air Force as a crew chief aircraft mechanic from 1947 to 1953 and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in the Freemasons and was also a Shriner. He was self employed his entire career as a building contractor and finished carpenter. He has built many well known businesses and homes in the area and even worked on small jobs before he became ill.
Arthur loved spending time with his family and friends and would spend many hours playing billiards with anyone who would challenge him and relaxing in his
basement watching old westerns.
Arthur is survived by his son, Dale of Maine and Florida and his ex-wife, Rebecca of Brewer and their sons, Aaron of Florida and Robbie of Bangor, his wife, Darcie and their two children, Mason and Avery of Bangor. Leesa Brown, husband M. Paul Brown and their children Paul, Cameron, Samuel and
Oliver of Royal Palm Beach FL. April and her two children Isabella and Cooper Garbiel-Achorn of Holyoke, Ma. and Carrie Achorn of Holden. His brothers Raymond and Daniel "Pete"; his sister Sandra Stockus and her husband, Arthur; sisters-in-law, Joyce, Francis, Joan and Doris; many nieces and
nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Louise and brothers Walter, Jay, Thomas, Richard, John and sister-in-law Judy.
