- Judith Lynn Hallowell, cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away from stroke complications on February 21, 2017, in Ft. Myers, Florida, at the age of 75. Judith was born in Caribou, Maine, to Richard and Barbara Hallowell, on October 23, 1941, and grew up there.
In 1959 she graduated from Caribou High School and went on Boston to attend nursing school. She married in September 1960, and moved to Khartoum, Sudan, where she had two sons before returning to the United States to raise her family in the New York City area.
The marriage end with divorce in November 1981, and Judith returned to school to pursue her love of design; earning a Bachelor of Design degree from the University of Florida in 1986, and master's degree in architecture from the University of Texas in 1992. Judith practiced in New Jersey and Florida, holding positions at a number of architecture firms and eventually settling in the Seven Lakes community, where she spent her retirement. She had a passion for Bridge, earning Silver Life Master status, and enjoyed many good times with her friends in the American Contract Bridge League and the "9 Holers" at Seven Lakes.
Judith was devoted to her five grandchildren and a central figure in all their lives, leaving them with lasting memories of summers in Maine, cribbage and driving her golf cart at Seven Lakes. She will be remembered for her compassion, competitive spirit and sense of adventure.
Judith is survived by her sons, James and Chaz; her grandchildren, Jessica, Ellie, Dana, Annie and Charlie; and her siblings, Sarah, Richard, Dana and John. She was predeceased by her parents; and beloved, Aunt Betty.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial in celebration of her life on Friday, July 21, at 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 768 Main St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Heart Trust, www.hearttrust.org.
