- Judith Atwood, 57, of Bath, Maine, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2017, at Hawthorne House in Freeport. The daughter of Joan (Hagan) and Ron Atwood, she was one of seven siblings. Judith graduated Salutatorian from Morse HIgh School in 1978. She was an accomplished musician on several instruments, including the french horn, having earned First Chair honors at All-State in 1978. She was also a talented guitarist and prolific writer. She was known and loved for her quick wit, sassy sense of humor and she loved to dance and sing.
Judith loved to travel and held fond memories of her family's time spent in Turkey. She also lived in New York state, Colorado, and North Carolina, but spent most of her life in Maine. Judith attended the University of Maine at Orono from 1978-1981, and ultimately earned a bachelor's degree in Religious Studies from SUNY Empire State College. Subsequently, she
served as a Licensed Local Pastor in congregations in New York and Maine for several years. After leaving that role, she held a variety of jobs including Administrative Assistant at CHR Realty and Clerk at Roger's Hardware in Bath.
As her health failed, she continued to write prose and poetry on a variety of blogs. It was there that she engaged with a virtual community where she was able to exchange creative ideas despite her physical limitations.
Judith is survived by her mother, Joan of Bath; her father, Ron and his wife, Priscilla, of North Whitefield; and six siblings and their families: Susan Meixell of Easley, SC, Jane Lauderdale of Poway, CA, Debbie Atwood of Brunswick, ME, Diane Atwood of Cumberland, ME, Mark Atwood of Maiden, NC, and Mary Atwood of Kennebunk, ME.
