INDIAN ISLAND - Joyce Nicolar, 61, died peacefully surrounded by family December 13, 2015, at her residence. She was born July 31, 1954 in Birmingham, AL, a daughter of Marion Walker Martin and Mable Ivalene (Busbee) Martin.
Joyce was a kind, generous, caring, spiritual, and loving woman who will be remembered for her southern hospitality. She fell in love with Maine 25 years ago while working as a traveling Echo Technician. She began a twenty-year career at Northeast Cardiology and also worked for several years at Mayo Regional Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, painting, drawing, and spending time with the children in her life.
She is survived by her husband Rick Nicolar, daughter Winona Nicolar, grandchildren Kirsten, Aryam, Chaske "Small Fry", and special nephews Ben and Hayna Francis all of Indian Island; sister Janet Lynn Martin of Demopolis, AL, along with a very large extended family who loved her dearly. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Kirby Martin, maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. James Busbee, paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Martin, and father-in-law, Fred Nicolar, Sr.
