JAY - Joyce A. Michaud, 82, of Jay, formerly from Millinocket and known by everyone as "Nanie," went to be with her beloved husband, Phil and friend, Claire "Kitty" Chasse, Saturday, June 7, 2014. After a brief illness, Nanie died peacefully in her bed. She was surrounded by her loved ones and all her favorite things at her new home with her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Tim Gulliver. She was born November 22, 1931, in Millinocket to Willis and Harriet "Edna" (Knight) Gates. Nanie graduated from Stearns High School in 1950 and married Philip George Michaud in 1959.

After the death of her husband, Nanie moved to be with her daughter and grandchildren whom she adored and was so proud of. Nanie spent time with the family enjoying her grandchildren, Nichole and Nicholas Gulliver, in their various school and sports events. She loved to watch TV especially ice skating and high school basketball. Nanie loved to do her morning crossword puzzle with her dear friend Janet Kinney of Jay. Nanie was an avid reader and she loved to call her daughter Beth, day and night to tell her what "good things" she had just read.

Nanie was a very special person. Nanie was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary in Millinocket. She was loving, caring and in Nanie's eyes, you were always a "darlin'" or "dear." She helped to take care of so many people over the years and touched so many lives. One of the special families whose lives Nanie touched is the Chasse family. Along with the Chasse family are 3 very special people, Kip McCarthy, Anthony York, and Cody York.

Nanie will be greatly missed by her family. Nanie is survived by her daughter, Beth Gulliver and her husband, Timothy Gulliver of Jay; her grandson, Nicholas "Nick" Gulliver and wife, Heather Dawes Gulliver of Wilton; her granddaughter, Nichole Gulliver, wife, Lindsay Jaques Gulliver and great-granddaughter, Scout Gulliver of Sebago, Maine; her sisters, Francis Grant of Houlton; Margaret McDonald of Millinocket; Joan Larlee of New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews whom she adored, and her lifelong best friend and sister-in-law, Pat Gates of Bangor. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip George Michaud; her father, Willis Gates; her mother, Harriett Edna (Knight) Gates; and her brothers, Willis Jr. (Billy) and Robert (Bob) Gates.

Nanie's family is having a celebration of her life on June 14th.
