Joseph's Story

BREWER - Joseph L. Tourigny, Sr., 86, husband of Janet E. (Gagnon) Tourigny, died July 10, 2015 at his home in Brewer after a lengthy illness. He was born April 4, 1929 in Trois-Riviere Quebec, the son of Emile A. and Florence S. (Migneault) Tourigny.

Joe grew up in Bath and Brunswick, attending local schools. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict where he earned the Bronze Star. After being discharged he moved to Brewer, Me where he and his wife of 63 years raised their family. He worked in the grocery business his entire life retiring from Paradis Foodliner in Brewer in 1991. He was a life member and volunteer at the Penobscot County Conservation Association where a scholarship fund was established in his name at Unity College. He was an active communicant of St. Teresa's Church in Brewer, where he served as a lector.

Surviving in addition to his wife of Brewer are three children, Kathryn Taylor of Durham, Joseph L. Tourigny, Jr. and his wife, Marjorie of Dixmont and Robert Tourigny and his wife, Ellen of Manchester, NH; two granddaughters, Claire and Laura Tourigny of Manchester, NH; one grandson, John Poore of Bangor. He is also survived by two sisters, Annette Steeg and her husband, Charles; Pauline Beuth and her husband, Richard; and one brother, Richard Tourigny and his wife, Christine, all of Florida. Joe was predeceased by a brother, Maurice, in 1947.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa's Catholic Church, South Main St., Brewer. A bereavement reception will take place immediately following the service at the parish center. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor at a later date.
