- Joseph C. Brito, 60, died at home on November 27, 2016, from complications of ALS. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Maria de Lourdes de Sousa e Brito (Milu Brito) and Joseph S. Brito, MD on June 17, 1956. The family moved to Bangor in 1964.
Joe is survived by his loving partner, Sandy Joy and her son Joseph A. Paul, who cared for him at home until his death. He is also survived by his sisters M. Paula Brito of Lisbon, Portugal, and Wanda M.B. Eynon of Ashland, Massachusetts, nephews Michael J. Brito of Taunton, Massachusetts, and João Brito Pastor as well as niece Joana Brito Pastor, both of Lisbon, Portugal.
Joe graduated from the University of Maryland and received his MD degree from Boston University Medical School. He was an anesthesiology resident at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts, and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the caring persons who attended Joe during his illness, especially Melinda Perrier, Arthur Adoff, Shannon Bunce, Billie Jo Stover, Adrianne Savage and Jessica Barone, as well as Gail Foss, LADC, Nurse Nori and Dr. Ronald Striar.
Heartfelt gratitude to our neighbors, the Cormiers and the Speronis and special thanks to our neighbor and long time friend George Chalmers, who never failed to visit.
We also wish to acknowledge the attentive assistance of Laina Reddington, RN and staff of Eastern Maine Hospice, and Nell Davies, RN, the ALS Service Coordinator for Northern New England. In lieu of flowers and gifts of remembrance, we encourage our friends to donate to the ALS Associate of Northern New England.
A remembrance gathering will take place on Sunday, December 4th 2016, at 201 Clyde Road, Bangor, between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00p.m. Friends are welcome to attend.
