John's Story

BUCKSPORT - John Homer Zimmerman, 71, died Sunday January 17, 2016 at a Bangor Hospital following a brief illness, with his loving family by his side. A son of Homer K. and Josephine (Shuman) Zimmerman, he was born May 12, 1944 in Chambersburg, PA.

He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966 including a tour in Viet Nam. He graduated from Penn State University in 1970 with a degree in Business. He was a member of Quittacus Lodge of Masons in New Bedford, MA. John was a private pilot and loved to fly. John was currently employed by Viking Lumber in Sales.

John was a dedicated Christian who loved Jesus and had a personal relationship with God. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. John is survived by his loving wife Diane R. Friend, his children; Tracy Denise Craig and her husband Ben and their daughter Carolyn Craig, Lance Jonathan Zimmerman and his daughter Cora, Jared Homer Zimmerman, April Kehoe and her husband Frank and their children Riley, Caleigh and Liam, two brothers; Rick Zimmerman, Lance Zimmerman, one sister Dean Statler as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents John was predeceased by one brother Thomas Zimmerman.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday January 23, 2016 at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home 28 Elm St., Bucksport where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday January 24, 2016. Burial will be in the spring.
