John's Story

MILFORD - John Trembley, beloved father, passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on May 14, 2015. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his three children and daughter-in-law. In the week prior to his death, three generations visited and were blessed with quality time spent with their wonderful pepe'.

John, of Milford, Maine, was born on December 15, 1931 in Old Town, son of Charles and Stella Trembley. He graduated from Old Town High School in 1950 and joined the Air Force in 1951. Over the next twenty years, he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars at air bases in Korea, Guam, and Thailand, and in peacetime was stationed at a number of stateside air bases.

After he retired from the Air Force, he worked in the restaurant industry for a number of years, at Fairchild Semiconductor for two years, and then became a general contractor. He later moved back to Old Town, where he became involved with the Veterans of Foreign War Post 3381, leading a number of VFW outreach programs in the Old Town/Orono area. In 1994-95, he was the State Commander of the Maine VFW and served on various VFW National Committees during and after his time in office.

John is survived by his son Richard and his wife Barbara of Albuquerque; daughter Kimberley Loring and her husband Wane of Old Town; and daughter Debra Harris and her husband Tim of Elyria, OH. He is also survived by his big sister Gloria Messier of Westbrook and brother Rand Trembley and his wife Dawn of Old Town. He also leaves behind six grand children, Danielle, Adam, Tyler, Danny, Sara and Cody; and nine great grandsons. He was predeceased by his wife Kathryn (Kitty) in 2014, his father in 1955, his mother in 1997, his sister Lorrain Julian in 1992, his brother Robert Trembley in 2012, his sister Margaret Messier in 2014, and his little brother, Richard Trembley, who was killed in action in Korea in 1952 at the age of 18.

The family wishes to thank the Heartland Hospice team, who took such good care of him, and his private caregiver, Crystal, who was a Godsend. The family is eternally grateful.

John's remains will be returned home to Maine. Calling Hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St, Old Town. The Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on June 3 at Parish of the resurrection Holy Family Church, Old Town, followed by military burial with full honors at the State Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
