LARGO, FLORIDA AND MILLINOCKET - John Wayne Salem, 71, died peacefully January 9 2015, at Bayfront Medical Center, in Largo Florida. He was born November 11, 1943, in Millinocket, the son of Fred and Pat (Murphy) Salem. John worked with his Dad at the family grocery store, Salem's Stop N Shop in the 50's, 60's and 70's. John was stricken with polio at age 2 and spent much of his early years at the Shriner's hospital. John won the State of Maine soapbox derby in 1959 and went on to compete in Akron Ohio. He moved to Florida in 1973 and there he worked for the Paradyne Co. He also had a hobby/business, videoing weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and bar-mitzvahs and his video business was his passion.

John is survived by two sisters, Sandra Haven of Lebanon Ohio, and Freda Rouleau and her husband, Peter, of Medway Maine. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Many thanks to a devoted friend, Brendon Reilly, who helped care for John in his later years.
