PATTEN - John Anthony Pond, 78, died at his home on October 5, 2014 after a long illness. He was born in Patten, Maine in 1936 to Charles and Letepha (Albert) Pond.
He graduated from Patten Academy in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart Norma Pelletier in 1955 and together they raised 5 children. He worked for several oil companies. He retired from Sherman Lumber Co. after 25 years. His great love was his children, his church, and his music. For several years he was very active at St. Paul's Catholic Church where he was the first Eucharistic Minister, the first Lector, directed the choir, was President of the Parish Council for several years, and was instrumental in starting, and became President of, the Holy Name Society. He and his family were music ministers for the Diocesan Seminar Group The Children of the Cross.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Norma (Pelletier) Pond, 3 daughters, Catherine Pond-Evans, Cynthia Ambrose and her husband, James Ambrose, Joni Chaloux and her husband, David Chaloux, 2 sons, David Pond and John Pond II, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his sister, Jean Adams of Houlton, brother and best friend, Fred Pond of Patten, and 2 very special friends, Mark Hartin and Martin Arbo. He was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers, Albert Pond and Lawrence Pond. He will be truly missed but his humor and music will live on through his wife, children, and grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be in the Spring.
