John Cornelius McGinn died peacefully at home in Jupiter, Florida on November 2, 2016. He was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on November 30, 1926, son of the late Clara Driscoll McGinn and Arthur P. McGinn. He spent his early years in Sanford, Maine and graduated from Sanford High School in 1944 and The University of New Hampshire in 1948. He then served in the US Army, where he wrote for "Stars and Stripes" from the Divisional Headquarters of the 88th Infantry Division based in Italy. He then returned to Washington D.C. where he worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation while attending Georgetown University Law Center. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in 1954. After employment in the trust department of a major Washington bank, he embarked on a 35 year career with the Merrill Trust Company in Bangor, Maine. He retired in 1990 as Senior Executive Vice-President of Fleet Bank of Maine. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, Maine and the Hobe Sound Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. After innumerable rounds at PVCC, he scored a hole-in-one on the 16th hole. He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his three children, Jane Tesseo McGinn. He is survived by his wife Irma McGinn and his daughter Giselle Linn and her children Aubra and Elise of Hampden, Maine, his son Christopher and his children Margo and Bradley of Portland, Maine, and his son , his wife Suzanne and their children Julian, Gabriel and Elliot of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. He is survived, as well, by Irma's children Kathleen, Barbara and Francis Jr. and their spouses. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Paul McGinn. He was a communicant of St. Jude Catholic Church in Tequesta Florida and St. Mary's Catholic Church of Bangor, Maine. A reception to honor his memory will be held at Hobe Sound Golf Club, 11671 SE Plandome Dr, Hobe Sound, Florida on Saturday November 19th from Noon to 2:00 PM.
