John's Story

BANGOR - John J. Matzilevich, Ph.D., 66 of Bangor Maine, died unexpectedly on March 8, 2016. He was born in Boston Massachusetts on July 21, 1949.

John was a practicing psychologist for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health for over 25 years. John relocated to Maine in 2003 and in recent years has been active as a vocational expert.

John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen Matzilevich; his son, Thomas Matzilevich and daughter-in-law, Gilda Matzilevich as well as his grandson, Lucian Matzilevich, whom John loved more than life itself. He is also survived by his siblings Benjamin Matzilevich and his wife, Angela Matzilevich; Catherine Stroud and her husband, Harold Stroud; David Matzilevich, Ph.D. and his wife, Louise Matzilevich; and Marion Matzilevich and her husband, Mariano Ubeda, M.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John is predeceased by his parents Benjamin Matzilevich, M.D. and Catherine Matzilevich as well as his brother, Thomas Matzilevich.

John will be remembered for his expertise at tennis as well as his love of the outdoors. But for John, family was his priority in life and he shined brightest in his roles as husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. John will be forever missed.

Services for John Matzilevich will be private.
