Text size

Milford - John 'Sonny' V. Ketch Sr., 83, died peacefully at home Nov. 8, 2016, surrounded by his family after a long battle with liver cancer. He was born in Caribou, Maine, on July 11, 1933, to Israel and Hazel (Patterson) Ketch. He graduated from Caribou High School in 1950. His family then moved to Passadumkeag, Maine, where he met the love of his life. They married in 1956 and raised seven children. In that time he moved from there to Cape Cod, MA, and back to Milford, Maine. In these years John was a woods worker, carpenter, truck driver, and even a substitute teacher, which if you met him he would love to sit and tell you all about his adventures and life.
After retiring and the passing of his wife, the game of pool (billiards to some), became his passion and joy, playing with family and friends was so very important to him, in fact, that when he got sick the only two things he wanted were to keep playing pool as long as he could, and have a cigarette. He played throughout his sickness and it kept him going.
He is survived by his seven children and their Partners: John Ketch Jr. and Linda LeBate, Brenda and John Peters, Frank and Billie Rae Ketch, Scott Ketch, Laurie and Sterling Farrenkopf, Ruth and Mike Moreau, Elaine and Tim Holmes. 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. 2 brothers, Edward and Jean Ketch, and Bobby Ketch, and many nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Deanna (Springer) Ketch, and many family members and friends who have gone on before him.
A time of visitation will be held Monday, November 14th 2016, at Clay Funeral Home in Lincoln, Maine, from 12 p.m.-2 p.m., with the funeral at 2 p.m., with a gathering to follow at the Passadumkeag Community Building.
