John's Story

HODGDON - John Gardiner, 84, died July 14, 2015, in Bangor. He was born June 2, 1931, in Houlton, the son of James and Astrid (Carstensen) Gardiner.

John planted potatoes for over 60 years, worked in the woods, enjoyed horses and raising cattle. John had a great sense of humor and was quite a prankster.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris (Fitzpatrick) Gardiner of Hodgdon; 6 children: Christina Mitchell of Gardiner, Brian and Lori Gardiner of Hammond, Ron Gardiner and Diana Barnes of Calais, Tammy and Doug Griffin of Hammond, Johnna and Tom Gilley of N. Yarmouth and Cindy Gardiner and Ronnie Fitzpatrick of Houlton; 5 grandchildren: Wendy, Kelli, Scott Abby, Kathryn, as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Folsom of Houlton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John is predeceased by his parents, 2 grandchildren and 4 brothers.

Friends may call 12-2 pm, Saturday, July 18th at the Houlton Wesleyan Church, Kelleran St., Houlton. Funeral services 2 pm at the Wesleyan with Reverend Wayne Robertson officiating and interment to follow at the Hodgdon Cemetery.
