John's Story

MACHIASPORT - John William Adams, 76, died Dec. 16, 2014, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Portland, the son of the late Christopher and Georgia (Wilson) Adams.

Following high school he served in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked as a chef. He was Past Commander of Am. Vets Post #6 in New Gloucester, and Past Commander of the American Legion Post # 9 in Machias. He will be remembered for his famous one liners. He also enjoyed cooking , and tinkering on things.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia Rose) Adams; three daughters, Darlene Newton, Christine Adams, and Lisa Gill and husband, Darrell; 5 grandchildren, Shawn, Samantha, Jeffrey, Darren and Danene; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Finik. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Christine and Margaret.

Friends may visit with the family from 10 am until time of 11 am Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Holy Name Catholic Church, Machias, with the Very Rev. Eugene Gaffey Celebrant. Burial with military honors will be held 1 pm Monday, December 29, 2014, at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta. A Celebration of his life will be held 1 pm Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at the Am Vets Post #6, Rt. 100, New Gloucester, ME. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Am. Vets Post #6 Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 301, New Gloucester, ME 04260 or to the American Legion Post #9, Machias, ME 04654.
