- Joan A. Thompson, well-known business woman, died at Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center in Caribou on January 20, 2017. She was born in Limestone, May 19, 1932, the daughter of Archie and Emma (Parent) Thompson. She was a graduate of Limestone High School, Class of 1949.
Joan is survived by her sister, Esther Blackwell, two brothers, Louis and Roger Thompson, one brother-in-law, Benjamin Brown, all of Limestone, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Florence Brown and a brother-in-law, Henry C. Blackwell, Jr.
Joan was a very generous person and helped many people in various ways, especially through her support in local activities.
Her many accomplishments include Limestone Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award, Limestone Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, Recognition Award from the State Legislature for her Business Achievements. She also received the Grocer of the Year Award from the Associated Grocers of
Maine, as co-owner of three Supermarkets, two in Limestone and one in Van Buren, The Limestone Town Report, 2015-2016, was dedicated to her and her brother and business partner, Roger.
She was very well-respected by many who knew her and loved her and she will be dearly missed by all.
