OLD TOWN - Joan B. (Dufour) Caron died from the inevitable complications of old age on April 10, 2015. She was born June 4, 1924 to Paul and Audelie (Brodeur) Dufour.
Joan graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1943. After a short stint as a secretary at the University of Maine, she married Lawrence "Joe" Caron in 1946 and went on to a full time career as a mother and Maine game warden's wife. In 1972, she returned to UMO as a secretary at the Canadian American Center, retiring in 1986.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, parents and a brother, Franklin. She is survived by children John and wife Barbara of Enfield, Susan Nealey and husband Jim of Severna Park, MD, Mary Durost and husband Jay of Bucksport, Peter and wife Lisa of Swanville; grandchildren Jack, Josh, AJ, Joanna, Kate, Emily, Brett, and Jase; great-grandchildren Laura, Samuel, Benjamin and Lydia; brothers Phillip, James and Peter Dufour and sister Eunice Bouchard.
Joan would like to express her gratitude to her dear friend, Virginia Greene, for helping to make her final journey so much easier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Old Town. A reception will follow in the Parish Center. Internment will take place next to her husband at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Eastern Maine, PO Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402, or Catholic Charities of Maine, PO Box 10660, Portland, ME 04104. In place of flowers, the family would like to take a step backwards and plant a living memory garden of perennial blossoms to remind us of Joan and the people who loved her. Feel free to bring a favorite bulb, perennial, root, shrub, fruit tree, or packet of seeds to be part of our garden.
