ORLAND - Jeffrey S. Newbegin, 54, husband of Cathleen Newbegin, passed away early June 4th, 2016 at his Orland home after a long struggle with cancer.
Born February 11, 1962 in Portland, ME to parents, Edgar Newbegin and Cecile Sanborn, Jeff grew up in Windham with his sister Jody.
After graduating Windham High School in 1981, Jeff moved to Prospect where he met his future wife Cathy. They were married December 5, 1987.
After marrying, they purchased a piece of land in Orland where Jeff spent countless hours making that piece of land on the Gilpin into a home.
Jeff became a licensed Master Plumber while working for Maine Energy and later went to work at the Waldo County General Hospital.
Jeff worked diligently embedding himself in the local community, along with hunting, fishing, camping and living the good life, Jeff's other passion was firefighting. Jeff served his community as a dedicated member of the Orland Fire Department for 21 years. He was 1st Captain for many of those years. He had remarkable skills and will be sorely missed by his fire fighting family.
Jeff's friends are many and deeply committed. Special friends Richard Crampton, Bob and Belinda Harriman and family, Rod Hall, Jake Harley and many more will miss him greatly.
Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Cathleen Newbegin; his mother and step father Cecile and Ray Clark; his father, Edgar Newbegin Jr.; daughters Kelly Mastran and husband Jeremy and April Cunningham; siblings Jody Rojas, AnnaJane Macomber and husband Matt, Erica Newbegin-Kiersted, Donald Newbegin and Heatherlynn; grandchildren Gabriel, Abigail, Joshua, Hailey, Sydney, Chelsea and Olivia; special nephews Marco Cody Rojas and Keith French; uncle, Richard Newbegin, Gary and wife Diane Newbegin, Dave and wife Mary Sanborn; special cousin, Rick Newbegin; brother-in-law Phillip French Jr. and wife; and many other in-laws. He is predeceased by son, Christopher Cunningham.
Services will be held at the Orland Community Center at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 11th and will be officiated by Pastor Peter Remick. Light refreshments will be served after the service at the home of Jeff and Cathy Newbegin.
