Jeannine's Story

VAN BUREN - Jeannine LaJoie Gagnon, 78, passed away on December 26, 2014 at a Van Buren health care facility. She was born July 5, 1936 in Cyr Plantation, ME., daughter of the late Gilbert and Martha St. Pierre LaJoie Ouellette.

For 23 years Jeannine was a Sister Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Good Shepherd Sisters). Her chosen religious profession name was, Sister St. Peter Chanel. She was a great grammar school teacher. She taught in the Van Buren Catholic Grammar Schools: Champlain and Sacred Heart Schools; St. Joseph Catholic School in Biddeford, ME and St. Ann's School in Lawrence, MA. She is well remembered by her students, now adults whom she taught with tender loving care. Jeannine, retired from the Sisters of Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, [Good Shepherd Sisters] after battling illnesses for many years. After a year of recuperation, she was employed at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, in Berwick, ME. There she served for 15 years as housekeeper, secretary and receptionist. There, she met Roger Gagnon from Somersworth, NH and were married in 1985. Roger passed away in 1997. After Roger's death, she moved to Van Buren, ME to live and care for her aged mother, Martha.

She will be remembered as a very prayerful, caring and loving person. She touched the lives of so many of her students and other people she served and cared of throughout her life. In Van Buren she took charge of the Good Shepherd Associates and the Third Order of Mary, Marist Laity, until she took residence at the Borderview Healthcare Center.

Jeannine was sister to Normand LaJoie (deceased) Fr. Roland LaJoie, SM of Tampa, FL. and Gerard LaJoie of Van Buren, ME. Step-sisters; to Anne Ouellette Doucette, (deceased) Stella Ouellette Rowe, Bristol, CT, Maxine Ouellette LaJoie, Cyr Plantation, Me, Therese Ouellette, Wolcott, CT, Carmella Ouellette, Winter Park, FL., Joan Ouellette Townsend, Salisbury, MD, Bernadette Ouellette LaJoie, step-brothers; Lucien Ouellette, Jr., Van Buren, ME and Donald Ouellette, Augusta, ME and step-mother to Ronald Gagnon, Lebanon, ME. She was a dear cousin to Marlene Donahue, Groton, CT; Myrna Keis, Chicago, Il. Priscilla Fortin, Newington, CT, and Lorraine Theriault of Van Buren, ME.

She will be missed by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces, step-grandchildren and a special dear friend/student, Chris Beaulieu, from Warwick, RI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am on December 30, 2014 at St. Bruno/St. Remi Catholic Church in St. Peter Chanel Parish. Fr. Roland LaJoie, sm will celebrate her funeral Mass. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home, Van Buren from 9am until 10:30am on Tuesday before the Mass.

Interment will follow in St. Bruno Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jeannine maybe made to: The Marist Fathers Senior Religious Fund, Fr.
