Jeanne's Story

STONINGTON - Jeanne Marie Burton, 53, born May 29, 1962, on Prince Edward Island, Canada, passed away June 21, 2015, in Stonington, Maine, surrounded by family and friends at the home of her loving mother, Anne Larkosh Burton.

Jeanne left us in the same manner in which she lived her life - with great dignity and grace- following a brave and courageous 8-year battle with cancer. Jeanne resided in Westfield, New Jersey, where she had grown up and attended school, after which she attended the Purnell School for Girls in Pottersville, New Jersey, as well as Roanoke College and the University of New Mexico.

Jeanne's passion for life, her spirited sense of humor, and deep love for her family and community was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She was an extremely talented designer of beautifully unique and classic handbags under the name 'Re-fabricate by Jeanne,' that evolved out of her commitment to take care of the earth and re-purpose materials that otherwise might be discarded.

Jeanne was the beloved daughter of Anne L. Burton, of Stonington, Maine, and Paul E. Burton, and step-daughter of Geraldine G. Burton of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, loving sister of Kathleen Anne Burton, of Sedgwick, Maine, her fiance Flip Jones, of Stonington, and step-sisters Cathy Abshire and Marilyn McKey, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her step-sister, Diana Miller of Baton Rouge. In addition to her parents and sister, Jeanne is survived by her uncles, Edward Larkosh, of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, and Thomas Davenport, of Wichita, Kansas, as well as aunt Donna Larkosh of Boscobel, Wisconsin, and cousins residing in Massachusetts, Kansas, Wisconsin, and Colorado.

A memorial service in celebration of Jeanne's life will be held Friday, June 26th at 3PM at St. Brendan the Navigator Episcopal Church, 627 North Deer Isle Road, Route 15, Deer Isle, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Island Food Pantry, P.O. Box 12, Deer Isle, ME 04627, and the Hancock County Home Care and Hospice, 441 Main Street, Suite 2, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
