Jean's Story

MACHIAS - Jean Marie (Antone) Pennell passed away November 4, 2014 at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Jean worked for many years in the automotive parts business in Machias. She was a member of Jacksonville Grange #358, where she served as Ceres and chairperson of the Committee on Women's Activities. She was a member of the West Washington Pomona Grange #18, where she served in several offices. She was a member of the Maine State Grange, where she assisted several committees and was Junior Deputy of the Maine State Grange for Washington County. She also served as the treasurer of the Whitneyville Community Club. She was a member of the Whitneyville Library Friends Group, where she assisted with the public meals. She was an avid fisherwoman and especially enjoyed trout fishing. She enjoyed many years of blueberry raking, picking blackberries, working in the garden and on the farm.

Jean is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Nathan Pennell; her two daughters Norma Jean Pennell and Ernie Anderson of Whitneyville; Anne Marie Pennell and Robert Moore, of Bucks Harbor; her grand daughter Makenna Karen Moore of Bucks Harbor; her sister Vivian(Sis) Leighton and Reid Leighton, of Dennysville and their children Randy Leighton of Dennysville and Tammy (Leighton) Polk and family of Pembroke.

She was predeceased by her mother Louisa Maker Antone, her father Clyde Antone, her brother C. Maynard Antone and her sister Karen Antone Dowling.
