- Dearly loved, Margaret Jean Lynch passed away peacefully at home on February 6, 2017. Jean was born in Houlton, Maine, on October 5, 1939, to Walter S. and Phyllis I. (London) Burtt. She graduated with the Houlton High School Class of 1957 with high honors and completed her studies at Eastern Maine General Hospital in 1961 as a Registered Nurse.
In July of 1957, a chance encounter with John H. Lynch, a young Army veteran from Rhode Island, resulted in a boat ride on Deering Lake in Orient, Maine, and the beginning of a 60-year life journey with her beloved Jac. As newlyweds with children they worked together to finish their educations, eventually settling in Pittsfield, Maine, where Jean found her calling as a wife, mother, and grandmother and spent a 35-year nursing career at Sebasticook Valley Hospital. Her greatest pride and joy was her family. Her favorite place was always Deering Lake.
Jean touched the lives of many with compassion and kindness and lived her life to the fullest through simple pleasures; gathering her family at home or at camp, knitting a sweater or mittens to give as a gift, watching the hummingbirds, or sending a note of celebration, encouragement, or thanks.
She fought her 6-year battle with courage, grace and dignity. She was grateful for the wonderful care provided by Dr. John C. Baker, Dr. James L. Clarke, the medical staff at Cancer Care of Maine, and especially the empathetic support of Dr. Sarah J. Sinclair. Hospice of Eastern Maine provided relief and comfort to Jean and her family. We will be forever grateful.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Richard; step-father, Ralph O. Peabody; and special Uncle and Aunt Philip D. and Beulah M. Tingley.
She will be forever remembered and missed by her husband Jac of Pittsfield; sons, Jimmy (Risa) Lynch of Stetson and Michael (Mareshah) Lynch of Pittsfield; daughter, Suzanne (Don) Guild of Manchester; six grandchildren, Sarah, Brandon, Nicole, Jacob, Emily and Cameron; six great-grandchildren; the extended Lynchs, Londons and Burtts; her cherished cousins; and her Deering Lake family.
