BAR HARBOR - Jean Curtis Frost, 84, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon April 11, 2015. Jean was born and raised in Bar Harbor, Maine the daughter of Warren and Agnes Curtis.
Jean's father was the head gardener for Potter Palmer at Hare Forest which was lost to the fire of 1947. She attended Bar Harbor schools and graduated Bar Harbor High School, with honors in 1948. She attended and graduated Westbrook Junior College.
Jean was the mother of Ronald C. Frost who married Valerie K. Frost; and Kathleen Marshall Gott married to Frank O. Gott. She is grandmother to Curtis Mitchell Gott and Albert M.Gott.
Jean's many talents and professions include: lifeguard and owner and proprietor of Frost's Dry goods at 30 Cottage Street. She finished her career starting as a teller at Bar Harbor Banking and Trust and working her way up to head teller then finally an officer at the bank before retiring.
Jean's most significant profession should be noted, she was a superlative and loving mother and grandmother, among many hardships and tribulations during her lifetime. She loved a good cookbook, and trying good recipes. Her expertise was her unequaled from scratch apple pies.
Jean loved to travel and was able to tour the United States. In her fifties she was able to realize a lifelong dream by flying to Scotland to learn about her ancestry. As much as she liked traveling and discovering new places her real love was Acadia. She took time to acquaint her children with the trails and the mountains. She would haul us all down to Ocean Drive in the worst weather to see the surf and watch Thunder Hole.
I think most will agree that her greatest attribute was her ability to forge lifelong friendships and family ties. Her ability to tell a story on her own was great, but soon tripled when accompanied by her sisters Jo Ann and Althea turning any gathering into a real 'cackle fest' Always cheerful and quick witted-even introducing us to Bert and I. More than willing to help, anxious to get involved and pitch in wherever she was needed. A nod should be given to her long time affiliation to the WOBT's (and you know who you are if you are one). She will be missed by family, friends and the community of Bar Harbor. The next time you see a George Booth dog cartoon, or stick your toes in the surf at Sand Beach, smile, and remember Jean.
Jean is survived by son Ronnie, daughter Kate and their spouses, Valerie and Frank; her grandsons Curtis and Albert, two sisters, Jo Ann and Althea, brother Rodney and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Michael.
A graveside gathering will be held on her birthday, June 14 if the snow melts and the ground thaws.
Those who desire may make contributions in Jean's memory to the American Cancer Foundation, ME., P.O. Box 553, Portland, ME 04112.
