WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Janie Hooper of Williamsburg, Va., formerly of Maine, died March 26, 2014. She passed at her home with family and friends at her side.
Janie was born Feb. 12, 1951. She is the daughter of Nola Doody of Bangor and was predeceased by her father, Bryce Doody and brother, Peter Doody, both of Bangor. She is survived by her daughter, Karin Zabell and son-in-law, Micah Zabell of Williamsburg, Va. Janie comes from a large family and has three sisters, Sally Duplisea of Pittsfield, Priscilla Bickford of Pittsfield, Joyce Fowler of North Carolina and Maine, and brothers; Ben Doody of China, Maine, Beecher Doody of Leland, N.C., Mike Doody of Melbourne, Fla., Pat Doody of Brewer, Tim Doody of Bangor. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who will miss her greatly. Janie attended Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield and graduated from Bangor High School in 1969.
Janie was a lover of animals. She had a number of wonderful pets over the years. When she did not have her own pets, she made sure the neighborhood birds and other creatures were well taken care of.
Janie also was an avid gardener. Her beautiful flowers and plants brought joy to her and to all who visited her. Her apartment was easy to spot with its colorful array of blooms on the patio and lining the walkway to her door.
Janie was very active with the MS Society. She attended meetings, helped organize the annual benefit walk in her area, and participated in that walk as she was able in the past.
Janie's wishes were to be memorialized in a garden where those who wish to attend can celebrate the joy of her life in an environment that she loved. This celebration of her life will take place at a later date this spring.
