- Janet Lander (Sterling) Thorp, 64, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at her home in Pittsfield, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 26, 1952, in Skowhegan, a daughter of F. Donald and Frances S. Lander (Merrill) Sterling, who predeceased her.
Janet married Dwight Leslie Thorp on May 29, 1976, at the Old Free Meeting House in Bingham, where she grew up. They were blessed with two children, welcomed into their family with great love.
Janet attended Oak Grove School for a time and graduated from Upper Kennebec Valley High School in Bingham. She attended the University of Maine at Farmington, and later graduated from the Maine School of Practical Nursing in Waterville. She spent many years taking care of others at Redington-Fairview Hospital, Sebasticook Valley Hospital, and several area nursing homes.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight Thorp of Pittsfield; son, Ross Lander Thorp of Pittsfield; daughter, Kamala "Kaili" Sterling Thorp, of Portland; two sisters Martha Sterling-Golden of Topsham and Marilyn Gondek of Bingham; and father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Joan Thorp of Charlton, Massachusetts.
She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful laugh, unbreakable spirit, and unwavering love for her family.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield, with the Pastor Bill Johnson officiating. A gathering will follow at the funeral home.
