Jane's Story

Enfield - Jane (Turner) McGowan died August 4, 2016, at Blair Manor in Enfield, CT, Jane was born in Bucksport on December 3, 1925, to Fred and Frances (Eaton) Turner.
Jane was educated in Bucksport schools before entering an apprenticeship in tool-and-die work at the Fay Scott Foundry in Dexter to help out in the WWII effort. There, she met her future husband, Wilmer Barton McGowan of Ashland. Together, they moved back to Ashland after his Navy service in the Pacific Theater.
Jane raised three children and loved being outside growing vegetables and tending her flowers. She also enjoyed the North Maine Woods, berrying, fishing, hunting, reading, dogs, and traveling with her late husband. They lived in Connecticut and Southern California during Wilmer's working life before returning to Ashland.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Wilmer; her siblings, Arthur, Sonny, Maxine and Margaret.
She is survived by her siblings, Robert, Richard, Caroline, Elaine and Durena; her children, Fred McGowan of Tolland, CT, Patricia (McGowan) Thibodeau of East Windsor, CT, and her husband, Rene, Kate (McGowan) Harris of Presque Isle and her husband, Dale; six grandchildren, Jennifer Lincoln of Syracuse, NY, Brett Thibodeau of East Windsor, CT, Carrie Chabot of Enfield, CT, Christy Daggett of Presque Isle, Jeffrey Roix of London, UK, and Robert Sweikert of Machias; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
There will be a graveside service for friends and family at the Ashland Municipal Cemetery on Saturday, August 20, at 10 a.m., presided over by Pastor Gardiner of the Union Congregational Church of Ashland. If you wish to do something in memory of Jane, if you are able, pick a pint of wild raspberries today and bring them to your neighbor.
