James's Story

ATKINSON - James "Jim" Reginald Perkins, 72, surrounded by his loves ones, went home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2015 at Promise Hospital in Oxford, FL, after a long battle with COPD. Jim was born in Dover-Foxcroft on Sept. 12, 1942, the eldest son of Reginald B. and

Lucille T. (Akerley) Perkins.

As a young man still in school, Jim worked both in the woods and driving a taxi for his father. He would go on to graduate from Foxcroft Academy in 1961 and then moved out of state in pursuit of work. In 1962, Jim started a 30 year career at a General Motors parts factory in Bristol, CT. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965, he proudly served overseas until 1967. Jim returned to work at G.M., retiring in 1992.

Jim was extremely proud of his Dover-Foxcroft heritage. Soon after retiring he moved back to his hunting camp in Atkinson, turning it into a beautiful home. He was a Freemason and a longtime member of the New Departure Fish and Game Club. Over the years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved watching the wildlife and feeding "Anita's" horses from his Maine front porch in the summer and watching sunrises and sunsets near his winter home in Leesburg, FL. Jim was a devoted husband, a loving dad, a proud grandpa and a loyal friend.

He will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor and big heart. He will be profoundly missed.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Anita B (Parker) Perkins; four sons and their families: Robert & Katie Perkins and their children, Connor and Cody, all of Winthrop,

William & Cassandra Perkins and their child, Barrett, all of Wayne; Jason and Tonya Holfman and their children, Chelcea, Linsey, and Bailey of Holtsville, NY; Sanford & Susan Holfman, of Harpers Ferry, WV. He also leaves three siblings and spouses: Patricia & Creighton Wedge of MA; Jayne D'Agostino of NH; Lary & Brenda Perkins of MA; Kathy & Jay Sage of ME; and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to his friends, Bill W. & Dr. Bob.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted 11am, May 15, 2015, at the family lot in Gray Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
