James's Story

HENDERSONVILLE, NC - James Franklin McSwain was born June 1, 1928 in Hendersonville, N.C. and died of cardiac arrest Friday, May 29, 2015 @ 3:18 A.M.

James was a loving, caring, encouraging, and gentle man who will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. He was a hard-working man who loved nothing more than to get out on the riding mower and cut grass or plant flowers and bushes. He had a hard time being still! James served his country for one year in the U.S. Navy until a medical discharge hindered further service of that kind but he remained a strong supporter of our veterans. He was industrious and, in his senior years, after losing much of his sight he learned to cane chairs and did a fine job! He loved people and animals, especially his beloved cats.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Elizabeth Purcell McSwain, his sons, Franklin Andrew and James Lanier, his daughter, Jeanne Marie McSwain Thompson, twelve grandchildren and, at least, twenty-three great grandchildren. HIs wife declares that, "He gave me more than anyone could ever want!" and he took wonderful care of her till the day of his death. "Jimmy" loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and we know that he is singing with the "great company of witnesses" right now and free at last from all pain and care! Always an encourager, "We love you, Daddy, forever!" Arrangements are in care of Thompson Funeral Home, Corinth, Maine.
